INFORMATION TO CORPS MEMBERS ABOUT PLATEAU STATE.

If you are posted to plateau state and you are willing to stay, then this information is for you.
I served in plateau state (batch A 2015).

Plateau state is made up of 17 local governments, namely: Barkin Ladi, Bassa, Bokkos, Jos East, Jos North, Jos South, Kanam, Kanke, Langtan North, Langtan South, Mangu, Mikang, Pankshin, Quaan Pan, Riyom, Shendam, Wase.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THESE LOCAL GOVERNMENTS (IF YOU ARE POSTED THERE)
JOS NORTH/JOS SOUTH
This is the toast of all corps members, you can be posted to NASCO, AIT, ITF, NTA, COCACOLA, MILITARY BASE, MILITARY SCHOOLS, UNIJOS, JUTH (jos university teaching hospital), National remote sensing institute e.t.c . The local government will not pay you local allowance but the PPAs will surely pay you and some provide accommodation. ITF pays 15000 plus accommodation.

WASE
Even though it’s a village but the local government pays all corps members 4000 per month, health workers (i.e if you study microbiology, biochemistry or health related course) are paid 20,000 per month, while a corps medical doctor collects above 50,000 per month. I SERVED IN WASE. (meat is very cheap, you cant finish 500 meat in 3 days)

MAVO
It’s a town under wase, an indigene (barrister bawa) built a corpers lodge and also pays corps members additional 20,000 per month. So if you are posted there, you are in money, in addition to the one the local government will pay you. (Though it’s a village).

PANKSHIN/MANGU/BARKIN LADI
Pankshin is the coldest city in plateau state, the cold is……. Words cannot describe it. You can serve in Federal college of Education Pankshin, General Hospital, Schools e.t.c
Mangu is the home of irish potatoes, infact they export it as well. The NYSC orientation camp is also located there. SWAN waters by UAC is produced there, If you are lucky to serve there……
Barkin Ladi is close to Jos, Plateau state polytechnic is located there, they accept corps members too.

OTHERS
I might not have full information about the rest but most schools pay their corps members around 5000 in addition to your federal allawee.

ACCOMODATION
Its either you stay in the corpers lodge (provided by local government), NCCF family Houses(for christians), MCAN HOUSE (muslims) other churches like NACC,RCCG, e.t.c also have family houses. If you want to rent a house, you are free in any local government in the state, but its expensive in JOS.
If you have any question, am at your service.

FIVE IMPORTANT THINGS TO TAKE TO NYSC CAMP

As you prepare to hit the camp for your orientation, please don't forget to go with these things for your convenience
  1. ORIGINAL CERTIFICATE/ STATEMENT OF RESULT
This is the most important document, if you don't have it with you, don't bother to show up.
2.CALL UP LETTER
You must be with the originals, it will be checked at the gate before you can be allowed in.
3.SCHOOL IDENTITY CARD
Each school is expected to have a uniform identity card. You must bring it to camp.
4. PASSPORT AND PHOTOCOPIES
Be ready to make lots of photocopies
5.OTHERS (not important but necessary)
👉 white rubber shoes- it's not important but you will need it on a rainy day.
👉white short and vest- To complement the NYSC own (which might be substandard)
👉Bed sheet and mosquito net (you should know why)
👉plates, spoon,  cooler and lots of snacks
you don't want to depend on their food. Just sort yourself out.
👉MONEY MONEY MONEY
if you really want to enjoy camp, please go with extra change so as to feed and get other things done. Though the bicycle allowance #1500 and your first allawee will be paid while on camp.
More to come on NYSC.
